This week at Rotary, we welcomed Brian Glenn, a Rotarian and representative of Shelter Box. Shelter Box is a Rotarian organization that helps to provide emergency non-food supplies for those displaced by disaster or conflict.

During the meeting, Rotary President Whitney Delcourt presented Shelter Box with a $1,000 donation from the Lake Ray Roberts Rotary Club.

Shelter Box is an international disaster relief charity that was started in 2005. The first disaster they responded to was the earthquake and responding tsunami that occurred in India in late 2004. Over the last 2 decades, Shelter Box has supported more than three million people in 100 countries and been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize twice.

Shelter Box has entities in several countries that can be used for local deployment when needed. They provided temporary housing structures and essential needs, such as cooking supplies, tarps and tools, lighting and soap to those who are in need of assistance. Once an emergency occurs, Shelter Box staff and volunteers connects with local government and other non-profit entities to determine the needs, then utilizes regional aid for supplies for those most vulnerable. By using local volunteers, they are able to find and assist those who have the biggest needs during times of crisis.
