At this week's Rotary meeting, we heard from new Police Chief Angela Mathews, who gave us a short presentation on her background and how it will inform her direction for the department!

Chief Mathews' spoke deeply about her mission to better recruiting, getting higher quality recruits to the City's police force. This includes several officers who have completed academy training, and having an officer specifically designated to complete recruiting during times of hiring.

Chief Mathews' main mission is in community policing, and having a presence at town events, including the creation of town events by the PD. This includes a Back to School Bash on August 9, National Night Out in October, and Blue Santa, which will be around the holidays. She wants to continue the foundation of Community Engagement established by Interim Chief Charles Kimble, who has been a mentor of hers since she served as part of the Killeen Police Force.

Her next item of business is to seek Texas Police Chiefs Association accreditation for the department. This includes a careful internal review of its policies, procedures, equipment, facilities, and operations to achieve Texas Best Practices as established by a committee of Police Chiefs across Texas.
