At November 19th's meeting, Rotarian Rowland Funk gave a presentation on the impact of local food bank Shepherd's Storehouse on our community.

The Club also elected to make a $1,000 donation to the Shepherd's Storehouse! The Shepherd's Storehouse has been serving Pilot Point and surrounding communities for 35 years, providing food and resources to those less fortunate.

The company, based from a warehouse at 1189 US-377, sees several large donations per week, including bakery and grocery items from Walmart, Target and Brookshire Brothers. Brookshires patrons can also elect to fill a paper grocery bag for $10 with grocery and personal care items, which are picked up weekly by Storehouse volunteers.

There are more than 40 volunteers who help stock Shepherd's Storehouse and assist those who come to pick up donations. Rowland spoke of a family of Ukrainian refugees who only spoke Russian. They communicated using a translation app, and have been able to get assistance with food as they adjust to life here. "That's how you get paid," Rowland said, speaking from the heart of the joy of helping those less fortunate.

Between July 1 and October 31, Shepherd's Storehouse provided food to 733 families comprised of 2,734 individuals. Of these donations, 41 percent were under the age of 18 and 47 percent were between the ages of 18-59. They also took in 186 applications for the Angel Tree at Midway Church, to assist needy families during the holidays.

Shepherd's Storehouse is open for donations and volunteers Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am to noon.
